Client: Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus Ltd
Project: Terminal Dismantling and Demolition, Larnaca, Cyprus
Following its relocation to the new oil storage terminal in Vasilikos area, Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus Ltd took the decision to proceed with the dismantling and demolition of their existing fuel storage terminal located along the Larnaca – Dhekelia seafront drive. The Larnaca fuel storage terminal consisted of numerous structures and facilities situated in around 56,895 m2 of land.
YNB Consulting was appointed to prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment study to determine the potential significant environmental impacts from the proposed works. The EIA study formed part of the demolition permit application that was submitted to Larnaca municipality. As part of our work, we prepared a detailed site inventory to identify all the structures, buildings and equipment to be removed. We also carried out a marine environment survey to identify potential sensitive marine ecology receptors such as Posidonia oceanica. The EIA study focused on embedding mitigation measures into the proposed project design mainly to eliminate the likely significant impacts to the coastal and marine environment as well as to optimise the management of demolition waste stream arisings.
