SDS & ESDS preparation

SDS & ESDS Preparation

Safety data sheets (SDS) are an effective method for the provision of information to downstream users on chemical substances and mixtures in the EU. Most buyers (either importers or distributors or downstream users) in the EU will request a copy of SDS when they buy chemicals.

The Annex II of EU Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) has mandated what information should be included in each section of the SDS. This is amended by the COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) No 453/2010 in May 2010. All SDS must meet the latest requirements of the REACH regulation.

In the case of substances that are sold in quantities of more than 10 tonnes per year and are classified as dangerous, the SDS must contain an Exposure Scenarios appendix describing how the substance can be safely handled. This is known as an extended safety data sheet (eSDS).
